Flashspoter - The Hollywood movie industry is gearing up for its biggest bidding war of the year. Battle of the bidding war is a movie BF the wildly popular war video game series Battlefield, Oscar-winning actor Michael B. Jordan and Director Christopher McQuarrie are the stars of the project. This news have just come out recently that Call of Duty movie has finalize its schedule, which is marking the rivalry of the two major franchises in the same genre. The Hollywood Reporter states that the production team has started to pitch to different studios and streaming platforms as of last Thursday.
Michael B. Jordan, who was just honored with an Oscar for his performance in Sinners, now officially signs as a producer but starring role is still open for him. On the other hand, Christopher McQuarrie, the director and screenwriter behind Mission: Impossible series, was given the task of not only writing the script but also directing and producing this movie. At the same time, Electronic Arts (EA) as a game developer also co-produced. This was in line with their strategy to took advantage of the recent trend wave of movie adaptations of video games of good quality in Hollywood. Meetings have been held with Apple and Sony, with the top priority being a deal that includes a release in theaters.
This move is considered a good time for business, especially after the success of Battlefield 6 which became the best-selling game throughout 2025. The eighteenth installment in the series has already injected more than seven million sales in three days and it is anticipated to surpass twenty million sales towards the end of the year. Such a milestone not only signifies that it is the first time the Battlefield yet again surpasses Call of Duty in terms of sales, but also makes it a highly valued brand ready for a big-screen adaptation. Since it already has a loyal worldwide fan base, this movie has a very great potential for the box office.
Battlefield was first released as a series in 2002 with World War II action title Battlefield 1942. For more than two decades, the game has continued to develop against the backdrop of various time periods, including the future. Battlefield 6 itself is set about two years from the time of its release, featuring a divided NATO alliance as one of the warring parties. This game is said to be one of the priciest projects in history. Furthermore, the fact that it effectively challenged Call of Duty's supremacy serves as a powerful indication for the developers to make a large investment.
Previously, there had been two unsuccessful attempts to adapt Battlefield into television series form, in 2012 by Fox and 2016 by Paramount, respectively. The failure did not dampen interest because now the landscape of video game adaptation to film is at the peak of glory. Million dollars worldwide was the revenue of last year's Minecraft Movie, and the Super Mario Galaxy Movie has already brought in $ 764 million in this first month. This success created opportunities for other projects that will be released this year such as Mortal Kombat II, Streetfighter and Resident Evil.
In the interim, Paramount Commissioning has tentatively set the June 30, 2028 for a new release title Call of Duty movie. Besides Taylor Sheridan (Yellowstone) who is one of the scriptwriters and producers, the film also had Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights) director on board. Whereas, the rivalry between these two brands which have binding to the video games at present, will be extended to the cinemas as well. Thus the competition between these two franchises extends not only to video games but also to movies now. It is not yet known whether the Battlefield team will meet with Paramount for the Call of Duty project, given that both properties are often compared as eternal pesaik.
The creative combination between McQuarrie who is an expert in complicated cinematic action and Jordan who has both star appeal and Oscar-class acting credibility. Unlike previous video game adaptations that tend to be origin so, this project from the beginning put forward the quality by involving big names behind the scenes. The priority of theatrical release also shows the belief that the film is worthy of being enjoyed on a big screen with a large production scale.
Industry analysis shows that the cost of acquiring Battlefield's intellectual property rights alone is very expensive, not to mention the cost of talents as large as Jordan and McQuarrie. Nevertheless, the potential return on investment is considered worth it given the loyal fan base and the positive trend of video game adaptations. The Studio that wins the bidding war is expected to spend no less than $ 150 million on production, not including global marketing costs. With McQuarrie's reputation for managing major projects alongside Tom Cruise, expectations for the quality of the film's action and cinematography are at a very high level.
Michael B. Jordan is in the midst of a prolific career, with other major projects including Joseph Kosinski's Miami Vice 85 scheduled for release in 2027, as well as an updated version of the Thomas Crown Affair. Next week, she also lends her voice to The Voice for Netflix's animated movie Swapped. Jordan's busy schedule, however, does not stop him from being deeply engaged in the making of Battlefield which means that for him this project is the first priority. Having already a lot of things done, the movie Battlefield can turn out to be one of the e few video game-to-film adaptations that are not only a commercial hit but also a piece of art.
